Etymology: From the Latin brevis (‘short’) and frons (‘frond’ or ‘leaf’), referring to the characteristic abbreviated leaves (i.e., the terminal leaflets are nearly the same size as the median leaflets, making it appear as though the tips of the leaves have been cut off). [source]
