Etymology: Honoring Héctor Gómez-Domínguez (M.Sc.), retired technician from the Eizi Matuda Herbarium in Chiapas, whose field explorations and specimen collections resulted in the discovery of several new cycad species from southern Mexico. [source]

Synonymy Notes: Martínez Domínguez et al. (in PhytoKeys 208: 78. 2022) placed this species under synonymy of C. subroseophylla without addressing the morphometric and qualitative differences between the two species laid out by Pérez-Farrera et al., 2021 (in Taxonomy 1: 345-359) or providing data to support their synonymization. This synonyimization is therefore rejected until convincing evidence is published to support this proposal
